The Theory of Relative Respectivity

theory of relative respectivity

This post has nothing to do with physics. But a recap doesn't hurt just to set the ball rolling and the ink flowing.

Along with Quantum physics, the theory of relativity proposed by Einstein (special in 1905 and general in 1915) have been two of the most influential developments in the Physics of the 20th century.

That's about all the felicity with physics I wish to flaunt today. :-) This post is about the importance of and respect for any idea or value or even a product or service offering. This post proposes The Theory of Relative 'Respect'ivity.

The Theory of Relative Respectivity

The proposition is that 'There is no absolute-ness attached to the 'importance' of or 'respect fo'r any product or service, whether physical or abstract or any idea/ enshrined value. It changes basis socio-politico-economic situations and the convenience of the bodies involved.'

An Old Tamil Proverb

A very simplistic example from a Tamil proverb taken from a very traditional joint family setting. The value of the pot that gets broken (by slipping unintentionally) depends on who drops it. If it be the matriarch/ mother-in-law, it is after all only a clay pot. If the daughter-in-law is responsible, the perceived value of the pot immediately rises exponentially. (The proverb refers to it as golden pot).

Another Example

Just to ensure that we do not leave the 'understandability' of this important theory to chance, here is another scenario. Diametrically opposite (basis the perceived value of the broken pot). Imagine two daughters-in-law in a typical Indian joint family. Each with their own favourite mud pots (maybe a gift from their parents).

Assume one lady accidentally drops & breaks the other's favourite pot. The value of the pot increases in direct proportion to the socio-politico-economic stature of the lady whose pot gets broken.

Beyond Traditional Indian Households

We see this happening all around the world, not only in traditional Indian households

The clay pot could be

- any 'person of interest'

- any terror activity that is perpetrated on my soil. I ensure that the world knows the pain I have gone through. A similar terror activity on your soil may need to be qualified/ substantiated.

- any life on the street looking different from me. He/ she/ it has no right to be. He/ she exists only with my grace.

- any fear I may harbour. I can accuse and to a large extent possible, brand another one of being the perpetrator, without any proof.

In Ending

'There is no absolute-ness attached to the 'importance' of or 'respect fo'r any product or service, whether physical or abstract or any idea/ enshrined value. It changes basis socio-politico-economic situations and the convenience of the bodies involved.' ... so states The Theory of Relative Respect-ivity!
